Abstract: The challenges and obstacles of Nina's parents, Minh and Thoa, is a big factor which shaped her into the person she is today. Her parents sacrifice their own personal needs for the future of their children. By wanting their children to become successful, Nina's parents risked everything and immigrated to the United States. It took several attempts for their family to finally set foot in America.
Life in America is not much different than their life in Vietnam, except for the better education their children are receiving. Minh and Thoa still with hard in order to support and provide for their family. However, for the futures of their children, they are willing to do anything.
As Nina gets older, she recognizes her family's living conditions and learns to appreciate everything her parents have done for her family. Her appreciation soon turns into motivation for her to do well in school. The transition from high school to college is challenging for Nina; nonetheless she learns and experiences skills which helps her through her first year in college. By acknowledging her family's history, she is able to learn more about herself and is inspired to become a successful individual.
