Abstract: Gabriela (Gaby) Santiago, a Mexican American, grew up in Sunnyvale, California. Her mother and father were raised in Guadalajara, Mexico, making Gaby the first generation in her family to be raised and educated in the United States.
Due to her parents' encouragement and hard work, Gaby and her siblings were able to attend college. Gaby got through college mostly on scholarships, loans and the rest was paid by her parents.
Not only were Gaby's parents a factor in her decision to attend college, her school also played a role. Gaby's high school advisors and faculty members prepared all of the students for a college experience and education. In high school, Gaby was one of three Mexican students in the graduating class of 650 people. While in college, Gaby enjoyed the more diverse setting. In May of 2006 she graduated from Saint Mary's College with a double major in Business and Spanish.
