Helping to Lay the Groundwork for the "Foundation Generation"

The January Term “Setting the Foundation” class would like to thank Saint Mary’s College for recognizing and working to aid first generation college students who previously did not have a forum to voice their experiences. All the collaborative work of the faculty and staff involved in this program has benefited us and will benefit future first generation students. You have paved the way for future foundation generations.

• The Catholic Institute for Lasillian Social Action for their funding and support that has gone to the development of the class and the production of our t-shirts.

• Barry Eckhouse and the Faculty Center for the Advancement of Technology for their grant that has gone to equipment for developing and launching this website, and for providing technical support for the videotaping of our panel discussion.

• The Anthropology and Sociology department for their financial contribution towards the purchase of t-shirts.

• The Counseling Center and Jamie Epstein for their help in developing a support group and informational brochure about first generation students.

• Amy Gonzales, Assistant Director of Admissions, for taking the time to be an inspirational guest speaker for our class.

• Former January Term director Tom Poundstone and the Jan Term committee for allowing two professors from the same department co-teach a course.
